SOCIAL MEDIA ASSOCIATE

Scott Wiener for Congress · Social Media Team
Full-Time · San Francisco, CA
Hybrid / In-field required

OVERVIEW
Scott Wiener for Congress is seeking a sharp, social-native Social Media Associate to support the campaign's fast-moving social media program. We're working to elect Senator Scott Wiener to represent California's 11th Congressional District (San Francisco), and social media is central to how we reach, grow, and mobilize our audience. This is an entry-level role built for someone who lives on the platforms, has a real feel for political and internet culture, and wants to learn — from the ground up — how to run social for one of the most-followed congressional campaigns in the country.

This position reports directly to the campaign's Social Media Manager and works closely with the broader digital and communications teams to plan, create, publish, and monitor content across Instagram, TikTok, X, Facebook, Threads, and other channels. Our content blends real policy substance with self-aware humor and quick-twitch trend-jacking, so you should be equally comfortable drafting a punchy caption, cutting a Reel, and jumping on a breaking-news moment.

The ideal candidate is endlessly online, fast, organized, and a strong writer with a good ear for voice and timing — someone who can take clear direction and bring their own ideas to the table.

• Write sharp, on-brand captions, hooks, and copy tailored to each platform.
• Capture photo and video in the field — at events, rallies, press conferences, and around San Francisco — on a phone or campaign equipment.
•Editing of short-form video (CapCut, Premiere Pro, or similar): trims, captions, on-screen text, and trending audio.
• Build and maintain the content calendar; schedule and publish posts on time and to spec (we use Sprout Social).

Community Management & Rapid Response
• Monitor comments, DMs, mentions, and tags across all accounts; engage where appropriate and surface what needs a response.
• Track trends, sounds, memes, and breaking news in real time, and flag timely opportunities to the Social Media Manager.
• Support rapid-response moments — when news breaks, help turn content around fast.
• Help keep an eye on the opposition and the broader online political conversation.

Coordination & Reporting
• Keep footage, graphics, captions, and project files organized and easy to find.
• Coordinate with the comms, digital, and field teams to source content and amplify priorities (theme of the week, events, endorsements, GOTV).
• Pull basic performance numbers (reach, views, engagement) and help track what's working.
• Be available for in-person content capture during daytime and evening hours, with a schedule that flexes to campaign needs and event timing.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Deep, native fluency in social platforms — especially Instagram Reels and TikTok — and a genuine sense of what makes content perform.
• Strong writing with a good ear for voice, humor, and timing.
• Comfortable shooting on a phone and doing light video editing (CapCut, Premiere Pro, or similar); eager to learn quickly.
• Highly organized, reliable, and responsive in a fast-moving environment.

• Based in or able to regularly work in San Francisco, with availability for in-person filming and events, including some evenings and weekends.
• Campaign, advocacy, or content-creation experience is a plus — but this is an entry-level role, and we will train the right person.

No college degree required.

Bonus: graphic design (Canva or Adobe), basic social analytics
