January 6th was not an aberration. It was a preview. Trump and his MAGA allies have made clear they will use the levers of federal power to stay in power, punish political opponents, and roll back the voting rights that generations of Americans fought and died to secure. Scott has spent his career taking on the most powerful interests in California and winning. He will bring that same fight to Washington.
The assault on voting rights is real and ongoing. Republican-controlled states have spent years making it harder to vote: closing polling places, purging voter rolls, gerrymandering districts to lock in minority rule, and passing restrictions designed to keep people away from the polls. The Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act. Congress has had the power to fix this for years. It has done nothing.
Scott will push to change that. He will fight to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act and restore the protections the Supreme Court stripped away. And he will work to eliminate the Senate filibuster, the procedural rule that has become the go-to weapon for blocking every reform that a majority of Americans support.
Money in politics is corrupting our democracy. The Citizens United decision opened the door to unlimited, untraceable dark money flooding our elections and drowning out the voices of ordinary voters. Scott supports a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United and will fight for real campaign finance reform so elections are decided by voters, not corporations and billionaires.
