San Francisco, CA – (March 9, 2016) Supervisor Scott Wiener announced new endorsements in his campaign for Senate District 11, building on his landslide Democratic Party endorsement in late February, making him the official party standard-bearer in the race.
With the endorsement of the California Small Business Association, California Professional Firefighters, Laborer's International Union of North America (LiUNA) Pacific Southwest Region, Pacific Contractors Association, and progressive local leaders Angela Alioto and Johnnie Carter, Wiener continues to build a diverse list of endorsers, demonstrating strong and broad support for his candidacy.
“The California Small Business Association is proud to support Supervisor Scott Wiener for State Senate. Scott has shown his commitment to the small business community that is the backbone of our local economy, creating jobs for residents and tax revenue for the state,” said CSBA President Betty Jo Toccoli.
The California Professional Firefighters and the Laborer’s International Union of North America Pacific Southwest Region are the most recent unions to endorse Wiener and join his growing support among the working men and women of labor.
“As a Supervisor in San Francisco, Scott has been a steadfast supporter of labor and of firefighters. We know that he will continue to advocate in the State Senate on behalf of fire safety and for working people,” stated Lou Paulson, President of the California Professional Firefighters.
Supervisor Wiener also announced endorsements from former progressive Supervisor Angela Alioto and former Community College Trustee Johnnie Carter.
“I’m supporting Scott because he votes his heart and mind," said Alioto. "As a native San Franciscan, I know that Scott cares deeply about this city and the people who live here. He will get the job done and be an outstanding representative for our great city!"
Wiener’s newest endorsements build upon his official Democratic Party endorsement, won with 80% of the vote, and strong fundraising numbers of over $1 million raised to date.
In addition to Wiener’s key Democratic Party endorsement, his record as an effective leader on issues of affordable housing, transportation, healthcare, education, clean energy, water policy, and public safety has earned him the support of Attorney General Kamala Harris, Senator Dianne Feinstein, Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom, Senator Mark Leno, the California League of Conservation Voters, Board of Equalization Member Fiona Ma, Assessor Carmen Chu, and many others.
