The Noe Valley Town Square is a community-driven project that will transform a privately owned parking lot on 24th Street into a public park. The Town Square will be a gathering space in the heart of Noe Valley's main commercial shopping district. In 2013, I worked with the community and the Recreation and Parks Department to authorize the city to purchase the parking lot owned by the Noe Valley Ministry (where the Noe Valley Farmers Market has been held for years). The Residents for Noe Valley Town Square have been raising private funds and working with the Rec and Park to apply for state grants to develop the parking lot into an active green space. These efforts are ongoing. This is a wonderful grassroots project that shows what a motivated community can do to improve our city. To learn more about the project, visit the website here.
