December 3, 2007 Dear Friend, I am writing to ask for your support for my reelection to the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee in the June 2008 election. I am excited about the opportunity to continue my work to build and energize the Democratic Party, and I need your help in that effort. The Democratic County Central Committee is the governing body of the San Francisco Democratic Party. The Committee is responsible for building the Party in San Francisco – registering voters, turning them out to vote, and educating voters. This is critical work: there are 150,000 San Francisco residents who are eligible to vote but who are unregistered. Registering these voters, and then turning them out to vote, is critical in ensuring that California remains a Democratic state. The fastest growing parts of California are also the most Republican areas – the Central Valley and other inland counties. We need to balance this Republican growth by making sure that San Franciscans register and vote. That is the unglamorous but crucial work that we do on the Committee. I have served on the Committee since being elected in 2004, and for the past year and a half, I have had the honor of serving a chairman of the Committee, that is, chairman of the San Francisco Democratic Party. During my time as chairman, we have registered almost 15,000 voters, utilizing field organizers and many volunteers. We have also improved and professionalized the Party’s operations, turning it into a year-round organization with a continual voter registration effort and with financial stability. I need your help to get reelected and to continue this work. Democratic County Central Committee elections in San Francisco are hard-fought and highly competitive. When I was first elected in 2004, 56 candidates ran for 12 seats. After a hard-fought campaign, I won by only a few hundred votes. That razor-thin margin of victory resulted from the support of my friends – support that enabled me to get my message out to the voters. My 2008 reelection will be competitive, and I ask that you help me win. Enclosed is an envelope in which you can send a contribution and offer other kinds of support, including volunteering.
